a fun summer do

Because you do have to braid each pony tail, this does take a little longer. So if you want it to be quicker, I would just do one row of the twisted braids. But it's super cute & I have to admit - I've NEVER had my girlie sleep in a hair do & wake up the next morning to wear the same thing - but she woke up this morning with the braids still in tip top shape so we just redid the pony tail parts (& curled them instead of braided them & pulled them up) & it looks just as cute as yesterday - so since this took a little longer - I was excited she could wear it 2 days in a row!!
Start by doing 4 piggies right in the front (sorry -can't see the 4th piggie)
Braid each one. The middle 2 though - you are going to divide in half & braid 2 out of one piggie. The far 2 side though, just get one braid out of it.
Do another row of piggies directly behind the first. If I was going to do this again, I would put all my piggies up first then go back & braid.
This is the easiest thing ever. I've done it before with the pony's straight but the braid just adds that much more to it. So grab 2 braids that are right next to each & go right over left (just like you are tying a lace) & pull.
This is what it looks like. So now I want to add them to the piggies that are already there. The best way to do this is by pinning one side so you can work one side at a time without the other wriggling around everywhere. Do ALL of your braids just like that. 2 of your piggies will have 2 braids to it since you split the middle down. You will see once you get going.
If you feel like that took you too much time - stop there & keep the hair down or whatever you feel would look cute. But if your feeling ambitious - do another row. It's totally worth it - it just looks too cute not to. You do the exact same thing you did with the first row.

You could probably even go one more row but I stopped there. Braid each piggie now.
Pull them up so that loop & secure with an elastic. Then I curled over the hair so that it was curling over the piggies. I had some ribbon but I thought it started to look like way too much going on. So we kept it without bows or ribbons in her hair today.
Super cute, right? LOVED it.
All you need to know is how to braid for this & you've got it!

This is so cute. I finally mastered the twist braid (which I'm so excited about) which would be cute with this, too.
I have to say - I can't believe you don't usually "recycle" hairstyles. I try to at least use the same piggie/parts/etc., for a few days in a row to save time (most the time it stays fine or just needs a little touch-up). Sometimes I change it up a bit; sometimes the only change is a different bow! You are so creative (and motivated) to come up with brand new things each day! Thanks for sharing all your ideas!

I tried this one today. My daughter's hair is shorter but it still worked out and looked super cute! However, I tried doing all the braids first like you suggested, and what I discovered was that I couldn't combine the end of my braid with the next pony because it was already braided. I just kinda tucked the ends under but I think it is much cuter with the braid combined so one row a time for braiding seems better to me. Thanks for the awesome ideas!! I love your blog!

i just did this one today...yeah, it took about 30 minutes, but it was cute! i made a mistake with the portioning of the ponies and next time i'll section it all the way down because i ended up lopsided. oops. then instead of having 4 ponies in the end, i just grabbed the 2 outside ones and pulled them into the middle ones, so it wasn't so bulky. and i left them hanging down as piggies, instead of braidning and pulling them up. SUCH a cute idea! i like it, even if my girlie didn't like to sit through it.

I was just given a link to your site and I LOVE it. I have 2 girls who love to look like princesses and I plan on trying these out on them. I have a question for you though...when you combine the braid into the already made pony, do you undo it and add in, or just add a second rubberband??? I can't quite figure out how you do that. I would love to hear how you do that. Thanks for all of the cute ideas!!

Mindy - I add my braid to a pony - add elastic to hold in place & then undo the braided pony so I can add that section to my next braid. Make sense? It does take a little longer by doing that but then you eliminate how many elastics you have & it flows altogether. Hope that helps. Let me know. Jess

My 5 year old daughter is a competitive swimmer and this is the best hairstyle for meets! I just do the braids all the way down her head, then put the remainder into two braids that I turn up like you did your 4. I love it because the hair fits nicely in the swim cap, it doesn't get tangled and crunchy from the chlorine, it looks great when she takes the cap off, and I can do it the night before, let her sleep on it, and it's in such great shape we're ready to go in the morning. Thank you so much for all the wonderful hair ideas. I use a different hairstyle from here a few times a week and always get people asking me where I get all the great ideas.
