Also - I've had lots of people ask what I use now that Garnier Fructis is no longer selling their sculpting pomade that I was using. I'm looking!! I promise!! I've been experimenting & haven't found something that I love yet. If you don't mind the cost - Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum is awesome. LOVE it!! Hate the price - about $26 for an 8.5 oz. You can buy it at most salons - I have seen it online for cheaper prices. You really don't go through it that fast since you just need one squeeze of it.
I've recently tried Pantene Pro-V Texture pomade that you can buy just at Wal-Mart. It comes in a 1.7 oz. for under $5. Not the same size or prices still as Garnier Fructis. It works all right. It's not my favorite - I feel like it kind of makes my hair greasy but on my girlie it works fine. But in the mean time - I will continue to find the perfect pomade once again. Garnier Fructis - why did you take my favorite product away? So sad:( The search is still on!! If any of you have suggestions on what you use & your favorite is - please share!
SUGAR WATER! We use sugar water! My grandmother told me that's how she used to keep her pin curls up and we've been using it for years. I put about 1/4 cup of sugar in a small squirt bottle filled with warm water. Stir until the sugar dissolves. When doing dd's hair I use regular water to style with then spray with the sugar water for an all day hold. I still use Garnier Fructis for tricky styles but the sugar water will hold even in a tickling match with my husband!
ReplyDeleteFYI~ The code for the 15% off is gat15 you put this in the discount code at checkout.
ReplyDeleteI love the Paul Mitchell Skinny Serum, but you are paying way too much for it. I only pay around $15for it. Do some checking around at other saloons. I think the walmart saloons carry it. If you know someone that does hair in their home they usually give it to you cheaper.
ReplyDeleteThank you, because I thought I was crazy! When I ran out of the pomade, I bought the first green container I saw and it's just not the same! I bought another kind and that wasn't it either - I just thought they changed the formula! I guess I should read a label sometime! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am using Garnier Fructis Texture Paste Matte Effect Strong - it keeps things smooth and in place, but I can still brush and re-style the next day, easily. My ONLY complaint is that it dries really fast. So I spray hair wet, then add it, and I better hurry up and smooth it into place, or I'm gonna need more water.
We use aloe vera gel in our spray water (another option for non-vegans is gelatine). We need to stick to natural options because of chemical sensitivitites. More or less aloe (or gelatin) determines the hold, and handling the hair helps if you need so much aloe that it makes the hair "crunchy". i hadn't heard of sugar water, and we'll give that one a try too (once the weather stays cold and we don't struggle so much with ants and bees!). Thanks for the idea Sparks! :) Going all-natural can limit us sometimes and it's great to have one more option! :)
ReplyDeleteI just picked up a super cheap product from Family Dollar called "Sportin Waves". It doesn't smell great, but it's better than the professional product pomade I bought from Great Clips. That stuff stunk!
ReplyDeleteSportin' Waves is a gel pomade and it was with the ethnic section. I used a little bit yesterday, but I'm not a good judge of pomades. They (including Garnier's) always seemed sticky to me so I didn't like using them. I basically bought this just because you recommended it, so I'm going to give it another shot! It cost $2.75 for 3.5oz.
If you have a Family Dollar near by, maybe you can try this one?
In reference to the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum: if you have Sally's Beauty supply near you, they carry a generic brand of the Super Skinny Serum, 8 oz. for about $8. I think it works just as well.
